HIBLA is a capstone project that seeks to cultivate an interest in Inabel textiles and as a part of contemporary fashion through its video feature series, lookbook, and website. The thesis group consists of 5 Multimedia Arts students from the De la Salle of College St. Benilde.

Mission

To celebrate and ultimately help preserve the tradition of Inabel weaving, by showcasing its beauty, history, and process.

Vision

To make Inabel a part of Filipino contemporary fashion.

Our Purpose

The significance of Inabel to Filipino culture and Ilocano identity cannot be understated. Referred to as “a piece of living history”, it is a traditional craft vital to the lifestyle and income of many from the Ilocos region. But with the coming of modernization in the fashion industry, Inabel faces dwindling demand and support. HIBLA aims to contribute to the preservation of Inabel weaving by celebrating the craft and its community of weavers.

Generations of Weavers

HIBLA sought to hear from both seasoned weavers and trainees about their journey with Inabel and the Pinili Weaving Center for a better understanding of the traditional craft and its current status. Seasoned weavers are those with ten or more years of experience weaving. Considered backbones of the current Inabel industry, much is owed to them for their dedication to keeping the cultural heritage of Inabel alive, ensuring the craft not only survives but also flourishes.
